So bored

Yesterday was another doctor's appointment. Nothing too exciting; I'm 2 cm now but otherwise the same. My blood pressure was really high when the nurse first took my blood pressure, and the doctor was talking about more blood work and possibly inducing me soon because she was worried about preeclampsia; but then she took my blood pressure again at the end of the appointment and it was basically normal. But I still had blood work done, and I have to work on another 24 hr urine collection today (yippee.....) so if something's wrong with that I guess they'll let me know. I don't have my ultrasound scheduled until next monday, if I make it that long. I also had a fetal stress test yesterday - I just had to sit there for 30 minutes with a heart monitor on and I had to press a button every time I felt the kid move. It seems I got my hopes up way too much that this would be over with sooner than later. Oh well.
I'm officially supposed to stay home with my feet up now. I more or less have been doing this since Friday, off and on doing some things like baking cookies and going grocery shopping and doing some light cleaning. I've already finished season 1 of the show Dexter, which was very interesting - I've got two more seasons to watch yet before I'm caught up. I also started knitting again; my hands are less numb than they were, and sitting around without knitting was driving me crazy.
Today's plan - stop by Wash U for the last time to check on my moss, return a couple things to Target, get a little bit of sun on my scary white legs since its nice out for once, and then watch Dexter and knit. Its going to be a long, slow week.

Its waaaaay too hot for this.....

Today was the 8th day in a row of 90+ temps in St. Louis....here I was thinking that I would get this uncomfortable stuff over with before the summer got bad, and we're in the middle of a heat wave. Ugh.
Anyway. Today I went to the doctor. It was kind of a pain because when I got there for a 10:15 appointment, they said she was in surgery and that it would probably be sometime after 11. I could have seen the PA again (that's who I saw last week) but I just decided I'd wait and see the doctor since it had been three weeks. So we waited. It was about 11:15 that we went in to see her. I'll try my hardest to remember all the details, but my brain is mostly mush. First of all, I'm just 1 cm dilated...but I am 80% effaced. The doctor kind of insinuated that she thought i could go sooner than later, but when I tried to ask her she just said everyone is different. I'm sure she just didn't want to get my hopes up cause I'm sure its possible I could still go to my due date.
When she measured me, she said I was measuring 41-42 weeks, and she kind of freaked out about the baby being big. I think she was a little out of it, it was her first day back after vacation and she'd just gotten in from surgery. So I just reminded her yes it does seem that I'm having a big kid. But she wants me to go to the perinatal lab at the hospital for an ultrasound. I was concerned then because that's like special fancy ultrasound (its where I had to go for the special heart ultrasound) and I asked her why go there instead of the in-office ultrasound tech - she just said she's concerned about his size and checking my fluid levels, and having a perinatal specialist reading the results. But the way the scheduling works, my doctor faxes over an order and then the lab calls me to schedule the appt, and no one ever called me today. So I guess it wasn't that urgent. I don't really know.
Then about my numb hands. I can't remember if I said that I have carpal tunnel syndrome and this is very common at this stage of pregnancy. But the doctor said that in some cases, the swelling can cause permanent damage, and that I should see a orthopedic surgeon. So my doctor's nurse used to work in such an office, and has an in for scheduling appointments, so I basically went straight from my doctor to the ortho doctor. He gave me cortisone injections in both of my wrists that should help with the swelling and numbness in a few days. I also have some wrist splints to wear while I sleep (not too sure what this helps). The doctor did comment that I might 'get this all over with before its made any difference' so who knows. Right now my wrists and hands feel very weird....I should probably not be typing this much. Oh well.
Also, because of how swollen my feet are, the doctor asked if it was possible that I take the rest of the week off work to keep my feet up and see if it helps the swelling. So I kind of am....I only went in for about 2 hours today, and I'll only go in for the afternoon tomorrow, and then I think I'll take off Friday for real. And Monday I'll go back to the doctor. So who knows. That's what's going on....

Satchel cracks me up....

I forgot to add this to the last post. Satchel always sits by me on the couch in the morning while I drink tea, eat breakfast, and watch the news....and he often ends up laying on his back so I can rub his belly. This morning after I got up, he just kept laying there, and it was particularly funny since his ears were flopped over. So I thought I'd share a funny picture of my favorite dog.

Baby Anna and Bad Lucy

My friend Emily had her baby, Anna June, last Tuesday. I went with the girls to the hospital that day to see her, but she was in an oxygen bubble thing because they thought Anna had pneumonia or something. Anyway, Anna's doing great now and she and Emily got to go home on Saturday. Yesterday Kevin and I stopped by to visit baby Anna on our way back to StL from my parents. She's so beautiful! I didn't get to take many pictures because Satchel was outside melting in the car, but I was glad to finally meet her instead of just seeing her in the nursery from the hallway!

The Archibald family

In other news, Lucy has been much better in general about not being as crazy and hyper and jumpy as she was....but in the past week she's taken to chewing up stuff again, and now its more than just underwear. Since we've had such a problem with her eating underwear, we bought a hamper to keep clothes in (as opposed to the laundry baskets that were easy for her to root through. But sometime in the past week, I woke up in the middle of the night, and the hamper was on its side, and Lucy had devoured two more pairs of underwear. So then this weekend we were keeping the hamper in the closet. One night, she somehow got a hold of one of my bras - it was definitely not on the floor, I really thought I had put it in the drawer but maybe it hung down so she could reach it? But she ate A LOT of it. It was an old, stretched out one, so no big loss really. Then Saturday night, I woke up one of many times that I woke up that night, and heard a chewing noise - she was chewing on one of my sandals - one of few pairs that isn't plain old flip flops that I had bought in SoHo last summer. She devoured the straps completely from one of the shoes. Very very sad. So last night, we put away EVERYTHING, and we had the hamper in the closet like we've been doing. But when I woke up around 1am, the closet door was open, and yet another pair of underwear is destroyed. ARG! I cannot believe she was able to get the closet door open without us hearing her. So I'm not sure what her deal is - if its so hot that she isn't sleeping well, and she's looking for chewing entertainment? Or if she's just grown into a very chewy puppy stage? Anyone? I'm not sure what we'll do with her, if we'll banish her to the crate for the night for awhile and see how that goes? But seriously I can't keep up with all the underwear she's eaten. It doesn't help either that this weekend I fell over while I was trying to put on my underwear and I tore a pair myself. Very graceful, I know.
Here are the shoes Lucy destroyed. She also took a small bite out of the sole of a new nicer pair of flip flops i just bought, but they are salvageable.

Otherwise, things are ok. My numb hands and swollen feet are getting more and more of a pain. I woke up multiple times last night with my arm so numb and throbbing I thought it was going to explode. A former coworker told me that I should cook barley and drink the water it was cooked in, and that would help the swelling go away....sounds like a worthwhile plan to me. I usually go to the doctor on Mondays but I think she's still on vacation til tomorrow or something, so I go on Wednesday. I'm just really curious to see what she has to say - one of my aunts predicted I'd have the baby by Friday, and a coworker for some reason decided it would be Saturday. At this uncomfortable hot rate, I'll take it any time!!!

Starting to Swell

Yippee, I'm officially a swollen pregnant lady. Basically, the day after my shower last weekend, my ankles started looking swollen. And now it seems to consistently be just my right ankle/foot that is swelling. And before I could tell anything with my ankles, I knew my fingers were swelling.....I got my engagement ring off about 2 weeks ago and left it off, and I took my wedding band off last weekend and that required lotion. I decided to buy a cheap silver band just because I feel completely naked without any rings on....and the ring I bought is 3 sizes bigger than my wedding rings - yikes! And I assume this is associated with the swelling - but my hands are getting numb easily. I have been working on knitting a blanket for a friend, and I could barely get across one row without needing to put my hands down. Very annoying.
I just got back from the doctor, and apparently these are normal things. She wasn't surprised that only my right foot was swollen, because my kid is sitting mostly on my right-hand side and is probably cutting off blood flowing back to my heart from my leg through the vena cava - woohoo. She just suggested laying down on my left-hand side when I'm able to. She didn't have any suggestions for my numb hands though. So that will get old real quick.
Anyway, it was a relatively productive weekend. I of course can't remember now some of what I did.....but I covered some wood letters with fun fabric to spell our kid's name on the wall. I'm sure anyone in my family could have done a better job (I'm such a half-asser) but if you don't look closely, they look ok. Yesterday I went to Babies R Us and bought a few more things that I needed with gift cards, and I found a mobile that matched my colors pretty well.....its giraffes. So now we're pretty much good to go! Here's a picture of the room currently, with the new rug, mobile, and the name on the wall.....

Showered with Love :)

This weekend my family threw me a baby shower. This is no small feat, because of the size of Kevin's family. I think there ended up being 76 invited or something crazy like that, and probably about 50-60 people were actually there. So kudos to my aunts Bonnie and Susie, my mom, and my sisters for putting everything together!
It was at the hall at the church in Grantfork, and it was HOT! Or at least I was sweating profusely the whole time. But I got almost everything I needed, which is very exciting! I even got 4 hand-made quilts (from my mom, Jackie, my grandma, and Kevin's aunt), which are all very nice. I don't have many pictures, except for a few from after the gift opening....

Here's all the superstars.....

Here's me and Emily, about 2 weeks til D-Day for her! If anyone has this picture with her eyes open, please pass it on!!!

Me and my momma and sisters and of course sweet baby John.

Me and John!

When I got home Sunday evening, Kevin helped me unload everything. Then he proceeded to dig through all of the boxes and bags, dumping everything into the crib. Thanks Kevin.....

Last night June came over to help me organize everything. Lucy only ate 4 of the baby's gifts.....well, she didn't actually eat them but she messed up two things that I was going to return to the extent that I'm keeping them (no big deal, just washcloths and a blanket, both things that I got a lot of); she also got a hold of a bib and ate the tag off, and she ran into the room and grabbed a toy and ran off but that was recovered without incident. We'll be keeping the door closed I think.....

Kevin was helpful by laying in the middle of the floor, getting the dogs to fight over a bone.

Hours later, the bed is made with my exciting new crib set! One of my favorite things!!!!

The newly redone closet is getting full too....Still lots of organizing to do though!

There are still a few things we need, but with gift cards and a few returns, it will all be covered. I'm so grateful to all of my friends and family! I still don't know how to use any of this stuff, but I'd be in an even worse place if I didn't have it all ready! THANK YOU!!!!

Wow.....

It was basically a year ago today that I started this blog. Crazy how much things can change in a year!

Finally, Progress!!!!

Finally, we have a place to put this kid when we have it. Kevin cleared all his stuff out of the guest room on Saturday, although unfortunately its still all sitting in various piles around the house. And I sold the guest bed on craigslist in about an hour, woohoo! Then yesterday my mom came over to help clean the room and move the little bit of furniture we have into it. So here it is....

Here is the completed closet. Kevin completely tore out all of the plaster, and built in the shelves and everything himself. Very nice. Lots more space than this kid will need.

This is the furniture we have so far: crib, rocking chair, and dresser chest. I'm still supposedly getting a changing table from a friend, that will go somewhere in the vast openness of the room.

Satchel says, "Why is this room so empty?" The room is just huge. I don't know if Kevin will end up moving his computer desk back in there, or what will happen....But its done!
